The Bosom Buddies Program, supporting women in Hawaii with Breast Cancer

Bosom Buddies, supporting women in Hawaii with Breast Cancer

Program:

Bosom Buddies of Hawai'i's mission is to connect Healing Touch practitioners with women in the first year of a breast cancer diagnosis. These practitioners go through a 20-hour workshop for working specifically with clients with breast cancer, and to prepare them for Bosom Buddies' approach. Once they have successfully completed the training, they are matched with a client for up to one year. Clients might live anywhere in the Hawaiian Islands, and we emphasize outreach to women of Hawaiian ancestry.

During that year the practitioner and client work out a schedule of Healing Touch treatments that is convenient for both of them. A special emphasis is placed on the immediate post-operative period or during radiation/chemotherapy. Some pairs meet weekly, some monthly. We work to address the client's physical and spiritual challenges, all the while being sure that the practitioner is also cared for.
